Meet the artist
Antonia Catherine Crook is a multidisciplinary artist, educator, and mental health counselor whose work is shaped by a fascination with human consciousness and the way humans have visually expressed themselves throughout time. With an MFA from Florida State University and a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, her artistic foundation spans drawing, painting, and mixed media, grounded in both technical rigor and exploratory practice.

Alongside her studio work, Crook holds a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, Texas. This dual practice informs an approach to art that is attentive to emotional landscapes, human connection, and the therapeutic potential of creative expression.
Antonia’s professional experience bridges galleries, classrooms, and community spaces. She has taught art at the college level, developed Montessori-based curriculum for early childhood education, and facilitated inclusive studio programming for residents of assisted living and people with intellectual disabilities. Her time as a Peace Corps volunteer in Micronesia, as well as periods living and working abroad, continue to influence her perspective as an artist and clinician.
In 2026, she co-founded Atelier Antonia, a fine art gallery and studio on Sanibel Island, with partner Frank Nero. The space will open to the public in fall 2026, offering workshops, retreats, lectures, and rotating exhibitions alongside the work of the gallery owner.
Currently based in Sanibel, Florida, Antonia is actively involved in the local arts community, serving as Plein Air Painting Chair for the Sanibel-Captiva Art League and exhibiting work throughout the region. Whether painting outdoors on the island or working in her studio, her practice reflects an ongoing dialogue between observation and intuition, structure and freedom—inviting viewers to find connections between art history and the ephemeral images of contemporary culture.
